Can machine vision inspection replace human eye inspection?

With the development of science and technology, robots and related intelligent equipment have begun to be applied to industry. So, can a system that performs detection through machine vision replace human detection with the naked eye?

To discuss this issue, it needs to be divided into two aspects, one is cost, and the other is technology.

If an enterprise wants to perform machine vision inspection instead of human eye inspection, it needs to be upgraded. This is a relatively difficult expenditure for small and medium-sized enterprises. At the same time, the use of machine vision inspection also requires related personnel, which is another expenditure. Therefore, at present, machine vision inspection replaces human eye inspection only in some powerful large enterprises, and small and medium enterprises will not consider it unless it is necessary to upgrade and replace it.

Compared with cost, technology is the key reason to limit machine vision detection to replace human eye detection. At present, in machine vision detection applications, lighting is a difficult point. If the obtained pictures are seen by people, they must be carefully considered to give results. Then the algorithm is too difficult to do. Conversely, if you do a good job in the early stage and highlight the features you want to detect, the algorithm is not difficult.

Machine vision inspection is currently very intelligent compared to humans, and is mainly reflected in unexpected defect recognition. At present machine vision is given some specific defect patterns to identify whether they have actually occurred. This makes some obvious defects sometimes, just because it hasn't happened before or diversified modes, so no specific information is stored in the machine vision system, which leads to machine vision inspection missed detection; such errors are manually detected, even if not found before I have passed this defect, but still have a great chance to find it through my own judgment.

At present, there are many smart camera vendors and many analysis software vendors. Although the software algorithms released by them have their own characteristics, they are practically similar and have very similar functions. But they all process the pictures obtained by the camera according to a fixed pattern and steps, and analyze certain expected features from the pictures to give the judgment results. There is no revolutionary intelligent algorithm.

In the short term, machine vision detection cannot reach human-like intelligent recognition, because the theory related to image analysis algorithms is not yet ready.

However, the biggest advantage of machine vision inspection over human eye inspection is stability. Manual inspection by the naked eye, even if a well-designed reward and punishment system, there may be missed detection rate, and machine vision inspection will not occur due to carelessness. Therefore, in terms of the most stable inspection required by factory inspection, machine vision inspection is better than human eye inspection. Even if the special defects in the non-algorithms mentioned above appear, it is a small probability event. Frequent machine vision inspection can still find the defects.

At the same time, in terms of cost, with the development of machine vision, the price can be more popular under the trend of falling prices. At present, four operators of a general factory require four operators, and the cost in a year is more than 200,000. 200,000 can almost do a set of machine vision.

Therefore, the replacement of human eye detection by machine vision detection is a trend that will be more and more popular. The main reason for the current restriction is that the intelligence of machine vision detection is not enough.
